Rue the medicine herb from Maya culture

Rue: Exploring Traditional Medicine Herbs (Ruda)

Rue, also known by its scientific name Ruta graveolens, is a medicinal plant that has been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. It is native to southern Europe but has been naturalized in many other parts of the world, including North America. Rue has a long history of use in traditional medicine, especially in Maya culture and Central American medicine.

Relyf is currently studying Rue, or Ruda as the locals call it, in conjunction with CBD for medicinal use. The above Relyf ruda plant is organically grown in jungles of Central America.

Modern research has provided evidence for some of its beneficial properties. In this article, we will explore the benefits of the medicinal plant rue and its uses in different cultures and traditions.

  1. Anti-inflammatory Properties Rue has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties that make it useful in the treatment of a variety of inflammatory conditions. Anecdotal evidence suggests that rue can be helpful in reducing the inflammation associated with rheumatism, arthritis, gout, and other similar conditions. It does this by inhibiting the production of cytokines, which are proteins that cause inflammation in the body.

  2. Antispasmodic Properties Rue is reputed to have antispasmodic properties that relax the smooth muscles of the body. This can be useful in treating conditions like asthma, cough, and menstrual cramps. Rue has also been used to treat digestive problems like flatulence, gastritis, and bloating.

  3. Antimicrobial Properties Rue contains several compounds that have antimicrobial properties, including rutin, flavonoids, and furocoumarins. These compounds make rue an effective natural cure for several microbial infections. It is used in the treatment of ringworm, skin infections, intestinal worms, and respiratory infections.

  4. Pain Relief Rue is also known for its pain-relieving properties. It has been used traditionally to treat headaches, neuralgia, and toothaches. Rue contains a compound called rutin, which is known to inhibit the production of prostaglandins, which can be responsible for causing pain.

  5. Wound Healing Rue can be used topically to promote the healing of wounds. It has antiseptic properties that help prevent infections and the presence of quercetin and rutin, along with vitamin C, may speed up the healing process.

  6. Other uses Rue is also used in the treatment of eye problems such as cataracts, conjunctivitis, and sties. It is also suggested that rue may have an effect on lowering blood sugar, though more research is needed to confirm its efficacy in this area.

Note: Relyf was given this Rue plant by the great granddaughter of the great Don Elijio Panti, the last great h'men or healer of Maya culture from Guatemala.
