How Does CBD Make You Feel? A Simple Explanation

How Does CBD Make You Feel?

Research suggests that taking cannabidiol (CBD) can influence a multitude of fascinating chemical functions, but how does CBD oil make you feel? While the effects of CBD can be very subjective, those that have used CBD products commonly report a welcome mood lift, sharp mental clarity, and even pain relief.

No matter what reason has led you to try CBD, you can rest assured that you’ll remain sober, as it offers no psychotropic effects. It is important to note, the most effective CBD products are derived from hemp oil, which has a different chemical composition than its relative, marijuana.

Hemp traditionally has low amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol THC that produces the “high” feeling of marijuana products, and therefore won’t leave you with intoxicating effects.

However, CBD can (and does) have psychoactive effects such as increased focus, easier time falling asleep, and other health benefits.

Relyf has already received some very positive feedback from people who have taken CBD for a variety of reasons. It became immediately apparent that chronic pain relief is one of the most common reasons people have tried cannabidiol, and in addition to addressing their discomfort, many individuals have reported a feeling of calm relief.

Much of the cannabis plant’s aptitude for relief can be traced to its interaction with our endocannabinoid system and nervous system, as it helps maintain internal equilibrium. As we learn more about its potential to ease discomfort and inflammation, we can see that a properly-functioning endocannabinoid system can also help us cope with stress and other imbalance issues.

Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD both work differently on the body and can yield different results and feelings based on the amount of THC in every dose of CBD oil. To sell legal CBD you must yield no more than a percentage of 0.3 THC from the hemp plants your harvest.

Thus, our research on the effects of THC is limited because of regulations. However, there is clear evidence that the level of THC and CBD in a given dose have a significant impact on the feeling. That feeling differs from person to person and we are still learning about exactly how these cannabinoids make a difference.

One thing we do know is that neurotransmitters regulate mood, and CBD can interact with them to maintain a feeling of calm clarity. “While there are many molecular pathways that CBD takes to help the body maintain homeostasis, a few have been highlighted for their calm producing effects,” says Certified Natural Health Practitioner Jenny Golden. “CB1 receptors found in the brain are activated by endocannabinoids such as CBD, and help to regenerate new brain cells, lowering activity in the amygdala and increasing prefrontal cortex activity.”

Among these neurotransmitters, gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) keeps neural activity in-check throughout the nervous system. Its counterpart, glutamate, is excitatory whereas GABA is inhibitory, and an imbalance between the two neurotransmitters can seriously affect mood and overall quality of life.

“CB1 receptors also balance GABA and glutamate,” says Golden. “When there is an increase in glutamate, GABA decreases, which is one of the causes of increases in anxiety, depression, and insomnia.” Anecdotal evidence suggests that even as CBD may prove helpful in easing aches and pains, it may also offer relief from these common mental issues.

The list of promising benefits continues to grow as more people share their stories. CBD is quickly becoming a more readily available means to lift the mood in the morning, hone focus during the workday, and quiet the nerves when it’s time for bed.
